Games are an ancient practice of human culture. We devised games for various reasons but socialization and teaching appear to be two of the most common reasons for creating games. In fact, games remain very popular methods for entertaining groups of people and teaching students. Games are used therapeutically, for research, and to serve as models for studying the fundamental principles of economics, human psychology, and other complex topics. Although games may be fun they can also be highly competitive environments; some games have spawned high-stakes competitions in which professional or semi-pro players earn considerable rewards.
